Frequently Asked Questions

F.A.Q.

  1. What is your square foot price?
    • When building a home there are many choices you make that determine the total cost of the house. Keep in mind that large areas which remain unfinished will add to the to the total price of the living space area. It has been our experience that well constructed homes can be built for as little as $90 per sq. ft., however most of our clients stay within the $100-$130 range, plus lot cost. Remember, if you choose a home solely on "cost per sq. ft." You will be sure to get the least expensive home though not necessarily the best value. In addition not all builders use the same formula for calculating square footage price, make sure that you compare apples for apples.

  2. Is there a charge for sitting down and discussing our ideas?
    • We understand that building a home is a very difficult decision. You need to be able to trust the person in charge of your home and make sure they work well with you. There are always many questions that should be discussed and ideas you may not have considered; a quick meeting could determine an "order of magnitude" estimate. This will help you decide if you're staying within your budget. There is never a charge for this, and all estimates are accompanied by a detailed specification sheet that will leave out any gray areas there may be with no obligations to you.

  3. Do I have to build my home on one of your lots?
    • Although we often do offer great building sites there is never any pressure to build on a lot we currently own. In addition, we offer great land search and pnce negotiations, sites analysis, contacts with financing, walk-throughs of current home construction and contacts with qualified home sales people

  4. Why should I build a new custom built home and not an existing home?
    • When you buy a custom built, quality home from a reputable builder, you know exactly what you’re getting. Along with this you are building a home that caters to you and your family's individual wants and needs. Now, consider you are buying a used car instead of a used house. What is on the surface may appear to be a better “deal.” When you add up the initial cost with the maintenance and repairs from unforeseen problems, it often becomes more expensive than buying new. The same is true in buying a new home. The added out of pocket expense from things such as maintenance and energy efficiency alone often make buying new a better value.

  5. How long will the building process take?
    • The building process takes about 90-120 days from the start of construction. This of course varies, depending on the complexity of the house and specifications; weather conditions may also play a role.

  6. Is now the time to build?
    • Yes, land and construction costs are continually increasing, adding thousands to the cost of new homes every year. First time homeowners will begin building equity and slowing this cycle immediately and, with interest rates where they are now, it makes the opportunity even better.

  7. I live out of town. How difficult will it be to build a home in NH, without being there?

We also frequently communicate with many of our out of area clients via e-mail and faxes. When you hire Beechwood Builders you can rest assure things are getting done right and on time.
